In 2008, my journey into the world of Tibetan art on canvas began when Mukti Singh Thapa, a celebrated Nepalese traditional thangka painter, joined the conservation project I was leading in the beautiful Mustang region of Nepal. Under his guidance, I embarked on the art of painting and continued honing my skills during the winters I spent living in Nepal.
During my time in Mustang, I delved into the creation of a captivating series of black and white thangkas, drawing inspiration from the profound essence of the 5 Tathagata Buddhas. The spark for this artistic endeavor ignited while working on stunning XV-century paintings within the sacred walls of Tubchen Monastery, a place where my dedication had taken root. These awe-inspiring masterpieces served as my muse, guiding me to craft my unique designs and layouts.
Juggling simultaneous careers in conservation and photography has limited the time I could dedicate to completing my artistic endeavors. However, with a return to painting in the summer of 2023, I am optimistic about bringing these works to fruition soon.
You may see some details of what I have been painting until now in the following pictures.
